Abstract

1442730 Magnesium oxide coating composition MORTON-NORWICH PRODUCTS Inc 29 Aug 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 37782/74 Heading C1A A composition for coating silicon-containing steel comprises a major proportion of sintered magnesium oxide having a citric acid activity (as defined) of from 30-85 seconds and a pore volume (as defined) of from 0À02 to 0À1 cc./g., and a minor proportion of (i) a chloride contributor which is MgCl 2 , BaCl 2 or CrCl 2 ; and (ii) sodium metasilicate in a concentration at least stoichiometrically equal to that of the chloride contributor. The coating composition, when applied, prevents fusing or welding of coiled steel sheet during annealing processes and provides electrical insulation laminated transformer cores.
