Abstract

1441292 Magnetic recording and/or playback apparatus SONY CORP 20 Sept 1973 [21 Sept 1972 25 Sept 1972] 44237/73 Heading G5R To wrap magnetic tape around a rotary magnetic head drum 1, Fig. 1, a support 21 of a tape transporting device is rotated around drum 1 from an inactive position to an operative position, tape engaging member 28, 29, including a pinch roller 28, on support 21 being movable therewith to draw out a loop L of tape from a tape supply 4 positioned on a holder 3 and wrap one side L1 of the loop around drum 1 with the pinch roller 28 being located adjacent a capstan 14, with the tape of the loop therebetween, in the operative position of support 21, the support 21 including a cam 112, Fig. 9, controlling the movements of a tape shifting assembly 33 operating to shift the side L1 of the tape loop L between the drum 1 and tape supply 4 in the direction increasing the extent of the portion of the guide drum periphery about which said side L1 is wrapped in response to movement of the support 21 to the operative position. In the inactive position of support ring 21, a pin 29 and pinch roller 28 of tape engaging assembly 25, a guide pin 42 and a pin 44 of tape guiding assembly 43 are in positions 29<SP>1</SP>, 28<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP>, 44<SP>1</SP> projecting upwardly into tape cassette 4, Fig 1. As ring 21 is rotated anticlockwise by motor 24 to its operative position, pin 29 withdraws a loop L of tape and wraps side L, around drum 1, a pin 50 of assembly 43 engaging in a slot 53 of member to 52 to maintain loop side L2 away from drum 1. Simultaneous movement of pin 34 of tape shifting assembly 33 completes the loading operation, whereby loop L engages erase head 16, drum 1, record/replay head 15 for audio or control signals, and roller 28. Driving engagement between loop L, roller 28 and capstan 14 is effected by solenoid 32. Operation of an eject button energises motor 24 to rotate ring 21 clockwise simultaneously with drive of the supply 5a or take up reel 6a so that the inactive position is again achieved with the tape loop withdrawn to run T1. The Tape Shifting Assembly 33, Fig. 9, has an arm 35 carrying pin 34 and urged to the operative position by spring 104 under the control of lever 106 carrying a roller 108 running on a peripheral cam surface 112 on ring 21 and engaging in a recess 111 therein in the operative position. When an eject button is actuated with the assembly in the operative position, slide 113 moves in direction A to move lever 106, via lever 122, to remove roller 108 from recess 111 to thereby permit ring 21 to rotate clockwise back to its inactive position, movement of lever 106 also moving arm 35 and pin 34 to the inactive position, such movement being completed via the engagement between roller 108 and cam surface 112. Turning of lever 122 moves auxiliary slide 119 in direction C to transmit drive to take-up reel drive shaft 13 via idler 128. A Tape Tension Control 129 has an arm 130 having a tape-engaging pin 132, tape tension being controlled by cooperation between a spring 133 urging pin 132 against the tape and a brake band 136 around supply reel drive shaft 12 with one end attached to arm 130. Movement of slide 114 in direction A, following operation of a recording and reproducing button, moves slide 119 in direction C to engage idler 128 with shaft 13 and lever 138 is moved to release arm 130 to allow pin 132 to engage the tape, movement of lever 138 turning holding arm 146 via rod 144 to securely hold arm 35 and pin 34 in the operative position. In an alternative embodiment. Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), the arm 35 and pin 34 of the tape shifting assembly also act as the tape tension control. A Cassette Holding Device 3, Fig. 2, has a cassette carrying table 55 mounted via arms 60A, 60B on pivots 61 and uged to an upper, loading, position by springs 65. Table 55 is pushed downwards after cassette loading allowing rollers 75A, 75B to roll over arms 60A, 60B on to the top of the cassette and into a cassette-retaining position. Rollers 75A, 75B are mounted on locking arms 71A, 71B interconnected via link 76 and moved to the retaining position by a spring 86 acting via levers 79, 89, 93. Such movement allows spring 86 to withdraw roller 84 from a recess 85 in the ring 21 to allow movement thereof to the operative position when motor 24 is energised by a switch 102 actuated by arm 71A, roller 84 engaging on a cam surface on ring 21 during rotation thereof. Operation of an eject button causes reverse drive of motor 24 to effect the tape unloading operation and acts via a resilient lever 100 to move arms 71A, 71B and rollers 75A, 75B to a release position when allowed by roller 84 engaging in recess 85.
