Abstract

1440498 Securing foil lids to containers OHLER EISENWERK THEOB PFEIFFER 22 Oct 1973 [23 Oct 1972] 49004/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division B3] In apparatus for bending the edge of a foil cover 2a around the flange 1a of a container 1 positioned in a basket 9bc, a compression frame 9ba is raised and through springs raises the basket against a plate 9ab to clamp the cover, further raising of the basket also raising the plate within a frame 9aa which bends the edge of the cover downwardly, further movement of the compression frame producing through springs upwards movement of a stepped outer frame 9bb to bend the foil edge inwardly so that final movement of the compression frame compresses the foil edge against the underneath of the flange. The compression frame is driven by a pivoted lever having an arcuate groove in which a crank pin engages. The flange 1a may be downwardly inclined towards a bead at the periphery, the plate 9a6 and compression frame being correspondingly shaped. Conveyer belts may feed containers to and from the apparatus on which a roll of foil is mounted, a knife severing each cover therefrom.
