1440444 Construction of combustion apparatus; liquid heaters PARKINSON COWAN APPLIANCES Ltd 31 Oct 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50736/72 Headings F4B F4A and F4W Heating apparatus for heating a fluid comprises at least one pair of bodies of heat conducting material, each body having an elongated groove 15 and a plurality of parallel walls 18 extending perpendicularly from the edge of the grooves, the two bodies being connected together with the wall 18 inter leaved so that the grooves 15 form a combustion chamber, the spaces between the walls on one side of the combustion chamber forming inlets for a fuel/ air mixture as indicated by arrow A, and the spaces between the walls on the other side of the combustion chamber forming outlets for the products of combustion, arrow B. Each body may be finned on its outer side, and two or more pairs of bodies may be assembled end to end. Walls 18 at the ends are formed with abutments 23 or recesses 24 to enable the bodies to fit together, and the ends of the bodies are dovetailed at 28, 29 to fit end to end, Fig. 3. The heater may be used in an air heater or as an immersion heater, or the fins may be omitted, each body having water passages through it.
