Abstract

1440091 Photographic colour silver salt diffusion transfer material GAF CORP 18 July 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 34179/73 Heading G2C A photographic material comprises a support bearing, at least two silver halide emulsion layers sensitized to different primary colours and a nucleating layer adjacent to and associated with each emulsion layer, each nucleating layer comprising (a) a colourless, non-diffusible colour former capable of forming a colour complementary to the primary colour of the associated emulsion layer by coupling with the oxidation product of a p-phenylenediamine colour developer, and (b) development nuclei for catalyzing the reduction of silver halide transferred to the nucleating layer, the distances between each emulsion layer and the nucleating layer in the material being effective to limit transfer of silver halide from each emulsion layer to only its associated nucleating layer, and each nucleating layer being less than 3 microns away from its associated emulsion layer and 3-6 microns away from any other emulsion layer. Each nucleating layer may be 0-1.0 micron away from its associated emulsion layer. The material may contain a chemical scavenger for oxidized pphenylenediamine produced during development of the exposed material e.g. a white coupler in each silver halide emulsion layer or a white coupler or anti-oxidant in a scavenging layer located between each emulsion layer and any other layer present. The exposed material may be black and white developed, and treated with an aqueous alkaline processing solution comprising a pphenylenediamine colour developer and not more than 2g/litre of a silver halide solvent to form positive colour images in the nucleating layers.
