1438396 Bearings CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 24 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44722/73 Heading F2A In a radial piston pump or motor comprising a rotary member 14, Fig. 1, formed with a set of pistons 12, as shown, or cylinders, relative to which are reciprocable a set of respective cylinders 16, or pistons, slidably engaging a track ring 18, the bearing surface 22 of the cylinder or piston engaging the track ring is formed with recesses 42, 44, Fig. 4, which are curved, as shown, or straight-sided, Fig. 4 (not shown), to provide effective recess and land areas greater and less than the actual recess and land areas, respectively. The recesses are supplied with working liquid via passages 46, 48. The cylinder radius has a specified relationship with the areas of the recesses and the bearing land, and the area of the passages 46, 48 is between 0À00002 and 0À0007 square inch. The radius of bearing surface 22 is less than that of the track ring.
