Abstract

1437967 Gauging and setting GILDEMEISTER AG 10 Dec 1973 [30 Dec 1972] 57157/73 Heading B3B A multi-spindle lathe in which a plurality of tool-slides 2 are moved relative to respective supports 1 by fluid pressure jacks 3 comprises for each slide an adjustable stop and/or switch 51 which can be remotely set by a numerically controlled auxiliary drive 7, each of the auxiliary drives 7 being connectable individually and successively with a single numerically controlled device thereby to successively position the stops and/or switches for each tool slide in accordance with a predetermined programme fed to the numerically controlled device. The stop 51 is part of a nut 5 screwed into the support 1 and clampable by a clamp 8. An auxiliary drive stepping motor 7 rotates the nut 5 by a shaft 6 having splined driving connection with the nut 5. For setting a position of the stop 51 at a datum position. An external control, e.g. decade counters on a remote control panel of the N.C. device, then feeds the required pulses to the motor 7 to set the stop 51 at a position relative to the datum position. A second auxiliary motor (9) (Fig. 2, not shown) may control the position of a cam (11) which strikes a switch (16) movable with tool slide 2 to change a fast feed to a slow cutting speed. The switch 16 is arranged to be activated by being struck from one direction only. A further switch 13 provides a datum position for the cam (11) from which the cam is set by remote control through the motor (9). A single motor may be used to selectively set both the cam (11) and the stop (51).
