1437678 Rocking chair mechanism PARKER-KNOLL Ltd 7 Nov 1974 48321/74 Addition to 1324451 Headings A4U A rocking mechanism for a rocking chair comprises plates 10, 11 secured to the base and the seat of the chair, respectively, the plates being interconnected by a resilient hinge 14 including a pivot block 17 of rigid material located about a port 15 and shaped to pivot about the edge of a hole 16 in the plate 10, the plate 10 being resiliently clamped against the block 17 by a resilient member 21 and a nut 29, and a resilient member 25 also being provided to act against rocking movement of the plate 11 about the hinge 14. The plate 10 may be fixed to a chair pedestal, and the plates 10 and 11 may be common to two rocking mechanisms spaced laterally of the chair, or there may be a single, central mechanism. A resilient stop 28 cushions downward movement of the plate 11, and stops may be provided to limit the rocking angle of the plate 11. The pivot block 17 may be of plastics material, e.g nylon or polyacetal, and the resilient members 21 and 25 may be of rubber or may be helical coil springs.
