Abstract

1437331 Moulding frozen foodstuffs UNILEVER Ltd 23 May 1973 [25 May 1972] 24685/72 Heading B5A Apparatus for moulding frozen food products comprises a compression chamber 1 leading to a plurality of mould cavities 12 in a moulding chamber block 8, the block 8 being displaceable transversely to an ejection position (Fig. 2, not shown), the moulding chamber block 8 being divided by a demarcation surface 11 into separate sections 9, 10 which are displaceable relatively to one another to shear the moulded portions into smaller portions of non-rectangular cross-section. Ejection is effected by ejection fingers 18 having staggered ends so that each engages the material at a slightly different time. As shown the demarcation surface 11 is an oblique planar surface which subdivides the moulded portion into portions of trapezoidal shape. Portions of other shapes may be produced by appropriately shaping the surface 11. The mould sections 9, 10 are displaced by hydraulic cylinders 14, 15, the latter having a longer stroke. In a modification (not shown) the separate sections are moved out at different times to effect shearing and then moved back into alignment so that a single set of ejection fingers ejects both sets of moulded portions.
