Abstract

1437207 Bursting apparatus PITNEY-BOWES Inc 8 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 46935/73 Heading B8R A web 10, Figs. 1 and 4, formed with a plurality of equally spaced lateral lines 13 of perforations to define a plurality of forms, and also being a multi-layer web comprising individual paper webs 15, 17, 19 and interleaved carbon paper webs 16, 18, is separated by bursting into separate forms such as 14, 12, 12a and the resulting carbon paper sheets are then removed from each form by means of an apparatus comprising a bursting station 25 and a deleaving station 45. The bursting station 25 comprises a pair of clamping bars, the lower one being a stationary rectangular-section member and the upper one 30 being rotatable to bring a lobe 71 into or out of clamping position, and a pair of bursting rollers, the lower one being plain and the upper one 36 having a flat portion 38 and a bursting edge 40 slightly sloping so as to act progressively across the web as the rollers are rotated. In operation, the web is fed until its leading edge is downstream of the rollers, and the first perforation line is downstream of the bars, the web is clamped by rotating the bar 30, and the rollers are rotated to tear off the first form, the web then being unclamped to allow the next feeding step, while the torn-off form is forwarded by bits 74 against stops 78 at the deleaving station 45. The web, and therefore the torn-off form, is also formed with marginal perforation lines 21 at each side. At one side the carbon papers are free and do not extend beyond the line 21, and at the other side the carbon papers are secured to the paper sheets outside the line 21. The station 45 is constructed and operates similarly to the station 25, but with the rollers 50 and bars 44 arranged at right-angles to the rollers and bars 36, 30. In operation, the form is clamped at the side where the carbon papers are free, and the rollers 50 tear off the marginal portion where the carbon papers are attached, the torn-off assembly being removed sideways by further rollers, the remaining form without the carbon papers being removed forwardly.
