143,573. Brandes, F. W. Jan. 27, 1917, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Friction gearing.-Rings of balls or rollers 5, 6, Fig. 1, supported in a sleeve-like cage 2 connect a cylindrical element 4 to an internal friction element 3. The arrangement allows differential movement between the elements 3, 4, the balls &c. working epicyclically. When balls are used, the elements 2, 4 may be connected by a serew-thread 7. Balance gearing suitable for motor-vehicles is shown in Fig. 2. The ball-carrying element 2 is the driver, the differentially-driven elements 3<a> and 4<a> carrying internal and external frictionallygearing ball races 3<b>, 4<b>.
