Abstract

1435448 Toggles SAURER-ALLMA GmbH ALLGAUER MASCHINENBAU 19 Feb 1974 [19 Feb 1973] 7530/74 Heading F2K A toggle mechanism providing high clamping pressures for example on workpieces or tools in a machine vice (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown) comprises one or more pairs of toggle levers 1a, 2 (three pairs as shown), each pair of levers 1a 2 being supported directly on one another and on a fixed abutment disc 3 and a movable output pressure block disc 4 by curved i.e. radiused ends 5 and 7, 6 and 9 and 8 and 10 respectively whereby during operational movement of the power amplifying toggle arrangement, by a manually axially movably screwed central spreader 11, all the radiused surfaces simply roll on one another with line contact such that frictional resistance and wear are minimized. Adjustable spring-loaded screwed pins 22 resiliently connect the discs 3 and 4 to form a unit and serve to laterally support and guide the pairs of toggle levers 1a, 2, a spring pack 19 serving to resiliently bias the unit to its released condition. Balls 21 inserted loosely in bores in the rolling surfaces 5 and 7 serve to prevent mutual displacement of the toggle levers 1a, 2 in the unstressed condition. The rolling radii of the toggle levers la, 2 and the discs 3, 4 may be varied from smaller radius at the start to a larger radius at the finish of each rolling surface (Figs. 7 to 9, not shown) such that the actual tightening stroke of the vice, during toggle lever operation, can be effectively increased, the stroke having an initially larger movement and low clamping force and finally a low movement accompanied by a high clamping force.
