Abstract
614,905. Vices. CHURCHILL & CO., Ltd., C., and MOULD, C. H. March 10, 1944, No. 4543. [Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIV] A device for producing relative movement in a predetermined path between two members, comprises a pressure roller adapted to bear on and be thrust by the operation of a cam in a direction transverse to its axis between a pair of reaction rollers operatively associated with or forming part of the members so that the said reaction rollers and members are forced apart. In Fig. 18, the device is shown applied to a vice comprising a base 132, fixed jaw 133, and a sliding jaw 134 which can be adjusted by the screw 135 and clamped by the nuts 136. An auxiliary jaw 138 is provided on the jaw 134, both of which are formed with undercut parts 139, 140 seating reaction rollers 41 and 42 which co-operate with a pressure roller 43 to move the jaw 138 relatively to the clamped jaw 134 through the action of a cam bar 142 with a slow taper surface 143 or with a surface having a series of shallow steps. Other forms of the device are applied to chucks [see Group XXII] and clutches [see Group XXIV].
