Abstract

1434190 Valves LANDON KINGSWAY Ltd 22 Nov 1973 [12 Dec 1972] 57181/72 Heading F2V A valve having facilities for monitoring for leakage between the closure surfaces comprises two closure members 13, 14, which engage two seats 22, 21 respectively in the valve closed condition and form a chamber 17, which is evacuated automatically as the valve closes, to which is connected a pressure sensitive switch 23. Closure member 13, which has a sealing ring 19, is integral with an operating stem 18 and closure member 14 of reinforced rubber sealingly slides on the stem. Springs 15, 16 urge the two closure members towards their respective seats. In closing the valve closure member 14 contacts its seat 21 and closure member 13 moves upwards until it contacts seat 22 forming the chamber 17 between the two closure members. By virtue of the seal between closure member 13 and the bore in which it works, the chamber 17 is evacuated as it is formed. Any pressure rise in this chamber, due to leakage between the closure surfaces can thus be detected by the pressure sensitive switch 23 which operates an audible or visual alarm.
