Abstract

1433942 Waste-winding SOC DE LA VISCOSE SUISSE and MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 5 June 1973 [9 June 1972] 26683/ 73 Heading D1J A winding machine with a self-threading traverse guide 4, Fig. 3 has an auxiliary guide 7 Fig. 2 for guiding the filaments in a wastewinding zone 6 of the package support 1, the guide 7 being on a guide bar that extends substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the paokage support, the guide bar 9 being axially displaceable and, in addition, rotatable about is axis or movable transversely thereof, there being means for catching the filament near the completion of the package winding operation and for removing the filament from the traverse guide 4. At the start of a winding operation the filament 2 is attached to the former 1. The guide 7 is swung about the axis 9 into a horizontal setting, Fig. 4. The filament initially runs against the edge 8. Whilst the former 1 speeds up the filament 2 slides over the guide edge 8 and is wound into a narrow waste collar 6, Fig. 2, at the outer edge of the package support 1. After full speed has been reached, the guide 7 is pivoted upwardly to a setting permitting the filament 2 to slide along the guide edge 8' and so cause the filament to form a reserve winding 6'. The speed at which the auxiliary guide 7 is pivoted is governed by the required number of reserve windings and can be adjusted accordingly. The filament 2 then slides along the edge 10 into the range of the self-threading filament guide 4 to form the cross-wound package 5. After the cross-wound package has 'been formed the guide 7 is swung back into the starting position shown in Fig. 4 to cause the filament 2 to be caught by the two edges 10 and 11 of the guide 7 to lift it out of the guide 4. A waste winding 12 is then formed on the package 5 by sliding the guide rod 9 with the guide 7 thereon back and forth. In a modified construction, Fig. 6 (not shown) the guide 7 does not rock about the axis 9 but is moved away from the package by piston and cylinder mechanisms. In a further modified construction, Fig. 7 (not shown) the guide 7 is not planar but is curved in the direction of filament travel. Between the guide rod 9 and the guide 7 is a slipping clutch enabling the guide 7 to be manually adjusted during the operation of the mechanism.
