Abstract

143,327. Worsnop, C. H. Feb. 24, 1919. Electrodes for alkaline accumulators are made by electrolytically depositing an alloy from a bath containing iron or nickel sulphate, cadmium sulphate, chloride of tin, and chloride of titanium on to iron and nickel sheets, which are removed at intervals and dusted with graphite and then replaced in the bath. The final deposit, which consists of alternate layers of alloy and graphite, is detached and bound with a metal frame to form an electrode; or it may be placed between two pieces of wire-gauze and subjected to pressure, the whole being kept together by being stitched through with wire. In another method, the deposit is cut into strips which are placed between perforated metal sheets held in a metal frame. The electrolytic bath may contain 5 per cent chloride of tin and 2 per cent chloride of titanium, and sodium chloride may be added to produce a smooth deposit.
