Abstract

1433181 Automatic control of position AUGUST SAUTER GmbH 10 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 17095/73 Heading G3R [Also in Division G1] The attitude of a vibration damped work surface, resting on a plurality of legs, is regulated by varying the length of at least one of the legs in dependence upon the deviation of the work surface from a desired attitude. As shown, a sensor 2 detects any deviation of a work surface 1 from the horizontal and controls the excitation of a reversible motor 13 via a differential amplifier 26, so as to vary the length of a support leg 9 and maintain the work surface horizontal. The sensor is a pendulum whose position is detected photo-electrically, inductively, galvanomagnetically or capacitatively. The leg adjustment may be by a driven nut 10 coacting with the threaded leg 9 as shown, a cam drive or a toggle lever. The work surface, which may support a measuring instrument e.g. a balance, has three legs, each with rubber vibration dampers 8 or springs 27, and the levelling control can be used on one or two of the legs.
