Abstract

1433023 Headers for tubular heat exchangers MARSTON RADIATORS Ltd 3 June 1974 [6 June 1973] 26987/73 Heading F4S A generally rectangular header box 15, Fig. 2, or 25, Fig. 4, for use in a multitube heat exchanger is moulded of plastics material and has around its open side (normally closed by a tube plate 13) an outwardly extending peripheral flange 17, Fig. 2, or 30, Fig. 4, with corners 31 spaced apart along its length, the flange surface 19 facing away from the base of the header box being, in a direction along its length, of a generally concave configuration. This configuration, which is to ensure a satisfactory seal between the header box and the tube plate, may extend along the whole length of the flange between adjacent corners 31 thereof, e.g. as in Fig. 4,; or it may be local, e.g. at the corner regions only, and provided by tapering projections (36, Figs. 5 and 6). A gasket 21 or a layer of an elastomer-type adhesive may be interposed between the tube plate and the header box.
