Abstract

1370860 Headers M BEHR [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR BEHR] 28 June 1972 [8 July 1971] 30283/72 Heading F4S A header for a tubular heat exchanger comprises a metal tube plate 2 (e.g. of brass or aluminium) to which is attached a header box 1 made of a plastics material, the tube plate having a peripheral groove adapted to receive a rim 13 of the header box 1. As shown the rim 13 includes a peripheral flange which is sprung into engagement with the peripheral groove of the tube plate and is held therein by a horizontal flange portion 15 of the tube plate this portion being directly opposite an inner horizontal portion 16 of the tube plate. Sealing between the members 1 and 2 may be effected by a gasket 17 of rubber or a plastics material. The header box 1 includes integrally formed fluid connections 4, 5, partition 18, expansion folds (19, Fig. 3) and a housing 6 for a fluid flow regulating valve 8, 9, 10 also of plastics material. The material used for the header box may have a metal filler or may have short glass fibres mixed therewith. This is said to render the thermal expansion of the material generally similar to that of the metal tube plate.
