Abstract

1432113 Peristaltic pumps E MOCHIDA 19 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 12133/74 Heading F1F A peristaltic pump comprises a plurality of tubes T provided with upstream and downstream common blocking flanges P 1 , P3 which block tubes T by pressing them against a face plate 3 operated by rams R 1 , R 3 connected to the pistons of air cylinders controlled by solenoid valves SV 1 , SV3, and liquid-squeezing means in the form of plates P 2 which co-operate with respective sets of three tubes and are controlled by similar rams, air cylinders and solenoid valves. The sequence of discharging a specified quantity of liquid from a tube is shown in Fig. 5 where flange P 1 first blocks tube T and then squeeze plate P2 squeezes a predetermined amount of liquid downstream. Finally downstream flange P3 blocks the tube before plate P 2 and flange Pi are withdrawn from tube T, flange P 3 thus preventing back-flow of liquid due to suction. Means for stretching tube T comprises rings H 1 , H 2 fixed to the upstream and downstream ends of tube T, a plate O secured to plate 3, and a lever K abutting the underside of ring H 2 . Screws N 1 , N2, N3 can be used to adjust the tension on tube T. The operating sequence of the pump can be controlled by providing cam-operated switches for the solenoid valves Fig. 4 (not shown). The plate 3 may be made of transparent plastics material or of metal, and tubes T can be made of a soft silicon resin.
