Abstract
143,137. Avis, S. W., and Hartford Special Machinery Co. Oct. 27, 1919. Chucks.-In a chuck of the type in which the jaws are moved axially in inclined holes in a head to open and close, the jaws are loosely connected at their upper ends to a ring carrier 7 which is connected to a nut 6 screwing on the body so that the nut may rotate without the carrier. To reduce friction, a ball bearing is interposed between the nut and the carrier. The nut is rotated through a feathered connexion with a sleeve 13 mounted between a ghoulder on the body and a cap portion 12.
