Abstract

1431084 Boron nitride composite VSES N-I INST ABRAZI VI SHLIFOVANIA USSR 2 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 46054/73 Heading C7A A composite consisting of:- (a) 85 to 97% cubic boron nitride of dendritic structure and grain size 10<SP>-3</SP> to 10<SP>-4</SP> cms. (b) 2-5% of a substance selected from Mg and Ca borides and oxides. (c) 1-10% of a high melting point material (e.g. Si C, diamond, corundum, boron carbride, borosilicafluoride alone or in combination). The composite may be prepared by missing hexagonal boron nitride and ingredients (b) and (c) in powder form, briquetting and heating to 2,000-2,200‹C at 85 to 95 kilobars pressure to produce billets for the manufacture of cutting, drilling, boring tools and dies.
