Abstract

1430629 Space-dyeing of yarns OMNIUM DE PROSPECTIVE INDUSTRIELLE SA 23 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14252/73 Heading B6C [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for space-dyeing yarns comprises a nozzle 8 mounted on a support rod 9 in a chamber 3, means comprising wind-up bobbin 15 and drive motor 16 for continuously feeding a yarn 1 through chamber 3 and below nozzle 8 and means including lever 10, link rod 11, eccentric cam 12 and motor 13 for reciprocating the nozzle 8 so that a jet of dye liquor from the nozzle repeatedly intersects the yarn 1 being dyed, the dyeing pattern produced on the yarn 1 being variable by continuously varying the speed of travel of the yarn through variation 17 and/or the speed of reciprocation of the nozzle through variation 14. Excess dye liquor 4 is fed back to nozzle 8 from the chamber 3 by conduits 5 and 6 and pump 7. Conduit 6 is connected to the nozzle by flexible pipe 6a. As illustrated the speed of travel of the yarn 1 through chamber 3 may additionally be varied during treatment by means of displaceable guide 19 mounted between fixed guides 18 and 20 and reciprocatable by means of pivoting link rod 21, wheel 21a and cam 23 connected via variator 25 to a drive motor 24. Variators 14, 17 and 25 may be operated to cause periodic variations in the speed of travel of yarn and/or nozzle so that a repeating pattern is produced on the yarn. More than one yarn may be treated simultaneously when a plurality of nozzles are fixed to a single reciprocating support rod (Fig. 2, not shown). Fig.3 (not shown) illustrates drive mechanism for apparatus in which a plurality of nozzles are mounted above the path of a single yarn to treat it successively, e.g. with different coloured dyes.
