Abstract

1430600 Polycarbonate/graft - copolymer moulding compositions BAYER AG 6 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972 4 May 1973 25 Oct 1973] 56490/73 Headings C3G C3P and C3R A moulding composition comprises, by wt., 70-30 parts of (1) a thermoplastic polycarbonate, and 30-70 parts of (2), being (2.1) a graft copolymer of particle-size 0À2-5À0 Ám. and optionally (2.2) a homopolymer. (2.1) is a rubber (2.1.1) on to which has been polymerized a monomer component (2.1.2) being methyl methacrylate M or a mixture of (2.1.2.1) and (2.1.2.2), where (2.1.2.1) is styrene S and optionally M, and (2.1.2.2) is acrylonitrile A and optionally M. (2.2) is a homopolymer of M or a copolymer of (2.2.1) and (2.2.2) where (2.2.1) is S and/or methylstyrene, and optionally M, and (2.2.2) is A and/or methacrylonitrile, and optionally M. (2.1.1): (2.1.2) is from 85: 15 to 40 : 60. The composition contains 10- 35% (2.1.1). 25-100% of (2) is (2.1) and 0- 75% is (2.2). 95-50% of (2.1.2) is (2.1.2.1) and 50-5% is (2.1.2.2). 95-50% of (2.2) is (2.2.1) and 50-5% is (2.2.2). Rubber (2.1.1) may be polybutadiene of particle-size 0À3-0À4 Ám. Graft copolymer (2.1) may be made by emulsion polymerization on to a latex of rubber (2.1.1) by the method of Specification 1,089,356. Polycarbonate (1) may consist of 50-85% polycarbonate made from a halogen-free polyphenol, and 15-50% polycarbonate where n is 15-200; X is C 1 _ 5 alkylene or alkylidene, C 5 _ 15 cycloalkylene or cycloalkylidene, a single bond, -O-, or and Hal is Cl or Br. Examples illustrate compositions containing polycarbonate, ABS graft copolymer and styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer. Use.-Injection-moulding or deep-drawing of prefabricated sheet or films to form housing sections, e.g. for domestic appliances or coverpanels for building. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 991,422, 992,503 and 1,293,973.
