Abstract

1430592 Screw press WATFORD ENG LTD 14 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 14597/72 Heading B1D [Also in Division F2] An auger press for extracting liquids from slurries 'has a perforated tubular wall 7, an annular pressing chamber which may be of reducing cross section and a rotating pressure regulated piston 38 (Fig. 2B not shown) which restricts discharge of solids at the outlet end. Slurry entering through 34 is forced up wall 7 by screw 8 rotated by motor 14, the annular chamber within wall 7 being constricted by upwardly tapering the wall 7 or increasing the diameter of the shaft 50; slurry is forced past the piston into chamber 36 from which it is ejected through outlet 40 assisted by vanes 58 attached to the rotating piston. Fig. 2B (not shown) illustrates how the rotating piston (38) downstream of the screw 8 has pressure applied by a non-rotating pressure controlled compressed air operated piston in chamiber 40. The piston (38) is allowed to lift to pass lumps. Air control apparatus is disclosed. The press illustrated has two assemblies as described above located in a common housing, with cover plate 114, common inlet 34 and common slurry and liquid outlets 40, 42. For Figure see next column
