Abstract

1429822 Needle and bobbin driving P COXON 6 March 1973 10933/73 Heading D1G [Also in Division H2] The needle 38 and bobbin carrier 52 of a sewing machine are driven in synchronism by an electromagnetic drive system (see Division H2) comprising a first stator 70 and armature 74 and a second stator 76 and armature 92, the second stator being energised by signal indicative of the instantaneous position and direction of movement of the first armature. Since the needle and bobbin carrier are driven electromagnetically, there need be no mechanical connection between the two parts of the sewing machine as shown in Fig. 8, wherein the needle carrier housing and bobbin assembly are respectively mounted on e.g. a ceiling 174 and floor 172.
