Abstract

142,924. Hough, S. Feb. 12, 1919. Cutter-bars.-In an adjustable rotary cutting- head for lathes, particularly for boring out shells, the cutters are radially adjusted in a sleeve-toolholding member by inclined grooves in the lathe spindle or tool-head carrying shaft along which the sleeve is traversed by a nut. The cutters 20 are radially adjustable in slots in the member 13 by inclined grooves 3 in the spindle 2 along which the member 13 is traversed by a nut 8, the member 13 and spindle being connected by a key 17 to prevent relative rotation. The nut is mounted between a fixed collar 4 and a collar 5 secured to the spindle by a pin 6 passed through a hole 7 in the nut. The cutters are screwed to bolts 22, which have convex heads 24 and pass through tapered holes 23 so as to permit of radial adjustment of the cutters, and are secured in position by set-screws 25.
