Abstract

136,238. Parnacott, A. E., and Spurling, B. C. Dec. 7, 1918. Drills and cutters; turning.-In turning, boring, milling, and like machines having a toolholder carried on a driven or non-rotary bar which passes through the hollow spindle carrying the work-holder, the bar is centred and improved means is provided for moving the bar in order to machine those parts of the work within the workholder. The bar b and tools e, f are centred by a conical sleeve d driven into the spindle c and by a spigot g engaging a hole in the work. A handoperated nut i engages a screwed part h of the bar b, and is prevented from moving axially by a yoke j and studs m. A feather l on a bridle k carried by studs m prevents the bar b from rotating, so that rotation of the nut i feeds it axially. A central bore through the bar may be provided for the supply of lubricant or cooling-medium, or for an operating-spindle for undercut tools; or self-opening tool heads may be carried by the bar.
