Abstract

1428907 Aqueous polyurethane dispersions BAYER AG 28 Aug 1974 [1 Sept 1973] 37577/74 Heading C3R Aqueous polyurethane dispersions are prepared by mixing, by means of a counterflow injection process, at least one prepolymer containing terminal isocyanate groups with water. The prepolymer may be dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent. Chain lengthening agents containing at least two groups capable of reacting with isocyanate groups and emulsifiers may also be present. It is preferred that ionic groups should be present in the resulting polyurethane and these are incorporated suitably by employing a prepolymer which has been ionically modified or by using a chain lengthening agent which contains ionic groups or groups convertible to ionic groups. The counterflow injection machines used may be any of those available commercially. Polyurethane powders may be prepared from the dispersions or the dispersions themselves may be used as coating or bonding agents.
