Abstract

1428775 Mixer housings PATENTANSTALT FUR NEUE BAUSTOFFE 8 March 1973 [9 March 1972] 11246/73 Heading B1C Apparatus for rotary tool means, e.g. mixer blades comprises a housing constituted by two end walls and a peripheral wall formed by a continuously circulating endless belt to provide a working chamber which partially surrounds the rotary tool means, the endless belt forms the inner peripheral wall of the chamber and at least part of the outer peripheral wall, the belt doubling back on itself by way of guide means so that the surface of the belt facing the actuator members is turned outwardly on traversing the outer peripheral wall. In the embodiment described the two end walls 6 and 7 are formed by fixed portions 6', 7' and concentrically mounted therewith annular rotatable portions 6" and 7" the fixed portions supporting a shaft which carries contrarotatable stirrer or agitator members 4, and the rotatable wall portions being supported by angularly spaced rollers 8 and 9 and supporting by way of flanges 23, 24 the side edges of the belt, friction between the belt and end wall portions facilitates the rotation of the wall portions with the movement of the belt. Scrapers 15 and 16 are provided to remove deposits of material from the side walls and a further scraper 14 is positioned relative to the belt support rollers 13 to remove deposits from the belt surface as it doubles back to form the outer wall of the housing. A flexible partially circumferential protection member 20 is provided between the inner and outer peripheral walls formed by the belt. In operation constituents are supplied axially to the mixing chamber by way of duct 18 and the mixed or agitated material is radially dispersed through the agitator blades and carried away by the belt through centrifugal action and is collected as the inner surface of the belt passed along a substantially horizontal path to the roller 18 over which the constituents are discharged.
