1427317 Recovery of nickel and cobalt NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 6 April 1973 [18 April 1972] 17879/72 Heading C1A A process for the recovery of nickel and/or cobalt from ionic solutions containing mineral acids other than H 2 SO 4 by treating the solution with ammonium sulphate in order to precipitate Ni and/or Co ammonium sulphate. The double ammonium salts can be converted to the corresponding ammine salts with ammonia and then reduced in hydrogen to yield the corresponding metals. In an example scrap Ni alloy containing Co, Cr, Fe and Mo is dissolved in aqueous hydrochloric acid and treated with Cl 2 to oxidize the dissolved iron into the ferric state. Ammonium sulphate is then added in sufficient quantity to cause complete precipitation of Ni and Co ammonium sulphates.
