Abstract
1426324 Bearings GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 9 Feb 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 5945/72 Heading F2A A journal bearing assembly, e.g. for a ship's propellor shaft 1 comprises a housing 3 in which is mounted a bearing sleeve 2, the housing being supported by bracket or rib means 4, 5, lubricant being supplied to the bearing via a first passage 16 in the bracket and housing and being lead from the bearing via a second passage 14 in the housing and bracket. The bearing may be so constructed as to form a hydrodynamic bearing causing the lubricant to circulate. Seals (22, Fig. 3, not shown) are preferably provided at each end of the housing. When used for journalling a ship's propellor shaft, the bearing may be located externally of the ship, the lubricant being supplied from a reservoir within the ship, to which lubricant is recirculated after water, which may have leaked into the bearing, has been removed from it.
