Abstract
1426257 Animal food RALSTON PURINA CO 12 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47788/73 Heading A2B An animal food, especially for dogs, contains a flavour enhancing amount of caprylic acid, capric acid, or a mixture thereof, preferably in an amount of from 0.00001 to 0.1 % by weight. The food may be particulate, being formed by extrusion and subsequent chopping, and the acid may be applied to the surface of the particles. An animal fat, e.g. lard or tallow, or a vegetable fat, may be used as a carrier for the acid, the mixture of fat and acid being applied by spraying and then tumbling. The fat forms 3 to 12% of the feed composition. Alternatively the acid may be distributed through the matrix of the food. The food may be of low, intermediate or high moisture (up to 76%) and may be canned. In an example a food containing meat by-products, whole chicken and fish, extruded soy fibres, flavourings, dyes and vitamins is disclosed.
