Abstract

1425524 Nuts WILSON-GARNER CO 16 Feb 1973 31751/75 Heading F2H A free-spinning nut 17 to bear on a surface of a workpiece of softer material than the nut comprises a substantially annular flat bearing face 25 having an asymmetric recess 29 formed at its inner margin, the recess serving to trap displaced material of the workpiece when the nut is tightened, to key the nut against rotation. As shown, the recess 29 comprises two 180 degree sections 31, 33 of which the section 31 is twice the radial width, and preferably twice the axial depth, of the section 33. The two ends of the nut are preferably identical. Flutes may be formed in the side faces of the nut to form curved notches in the outer periphery of the bearing face, and these flutes are preferably arranged asymmetrically around the nut.
