1424471 Casting processes MEIGH CASTINGS Ltd 31 Jan 1974 [10 Feb 1973] 6648/73 Heading B3F A method of casting comprises moving a mould box into engagement with a bar (15) positioned adjacent the discharge outlet of a launder leading from a furnace, tilting the box into a position inclined to the horizontal, and thereafter effecting controlled pivotal movement of the mould box into a horizontal position while pouring metal into the mould cavity by passage along the launder. The apparatus includes three frames 10, 12 and (14) movable relative to one another by hydraulic rams. The first frame 10 has a pair of spaced side members 11 between which extend a plurality of rollers and is movable relative to the second frame 12 by rams 13 having piston-rods 18. The third frame (14) includes a pair of vertical columns 33 between the upper ends of which the bar (15) extends and on which the ends of side members 20 of the second frame 12 are pivotally mounted. In use, a mould box is moved along a roller conveyer into the required position in the first frame 10 and the frame 10 moved vertically by the rams 13 until the upper surface of the mould box engages the bar (15). Upward movement of the frame 10 is then stopped and the frames 10 and 12 pivoted together about the axis of the bar (15) by means of rams 22 and 23 until the mould box is substantially vertical. Molten metal is then introduced into the mould while the frames 10 and 12 together with the mould box are returning to their horizontal positions.
