Abstract

1423685 Silver salt stabilizers EASTMAN KODAK CO 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21550/73 Heading G2C A silver salt stabilizer comprises a compound containing the grouping which on heating or treatment with alkali e.g. ammonia or an amine, decomposes to give a moiety R 3 S - which stabilizes the photo-sensitive silver salt. The S-carbamoyl compound may be incorporated in a photographic material e.g. in a photosensitive silver salt layer or layer adjacent thereto in an amount ranging from 0À25 moles to 20 moles per mole of the silver salt and/or in a processing composition. The compound stabilizes the image after exposure and development. The photographic material may also contain a silver salt developing agent e.g. alkoxy hydroquinone for 4- hydroxymethyl pyrazolidone and the material may be developed and stabilized by heating or treating with an alkaline development activator. Many S- carbamoyl compounds are given which include S-ethylcarbamoyl-2-mercaptoisobutyric acid, dicyclohexylamine salt; S-ethylcarbamoyl-2- mercaptoethylamine, p-toluene sulphonic acid salt; 3-(ethylcarbamoylthio) propanesulphonic acid, guanidinium salt; S-ethylcarbamoyl-N-acetyl-2- mercapto-ethylamine and copoly [vinyl methyl ether-N-(ethylcarbamoylthioethyl) maleamic acid].
