Abstract

1422936 Flexible hose ALENCO HILYN Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [24 Nov 1971 30 Dec 1971] 54617/71 and 60645/71 Heading F2P In a method of making a braided, flexible hose, the braid is applied to the hose carcase so that it is not at a constant lay angle around the periphery and when the hose is subsequently internally pressurized it assumes a non-linear form, e.g. curved or helical. The material of the hose may be cured or hardened in this condition, e.g. by hot liquid being used as the pressurizing agent, to fix the shape. In one arrangement, the braid is applied so that the lay angle at diametrically opposed locations is respectively greater than and less than a mean lay angle. The braid is applied in different ways according to the shape required upon pressurizing. The hose may be placed off-centre with respect to an axis X-X and bobbins B, Fig. 1, or the hose may lie on the axis of the winding machine but bent at an angle at the point of braid application, Fig. 2. The hose may also be subjected to torsion. The hose carcase may be of plastics, elastomeric or metallic materials and a cover may be provided over the braid.
