Abstract

1422772 Foundations for buildings; piles CEMENTATION CO LTD 11 Jan 1973 [12 Oct 1971] 47541/71 Headings E1A and E1H In a building supported on piles, differential settlement is accommodated by interposing between the top of at least one of the piles, which one is expected to settle least, and the building one or more deformable members. The deformable member may comprise one or more sheets, blocks, perforated sheets or perforated blocks of hard rubber, plastics or soft metal such as aluminium sandwiched between two rigid steel sheets provided, if desired, with conical teeth, see Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 (not shown). The deformable member may be in the form of a cell having a two part relatively movable casing 14, 15 containing a system of springs 25 - - - - 29 which may be in the form of ring springs or disc springs, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The lower casing part 14 is provided with a wall 16 spaced from the upper casing part 15 by a bitumastic seal 19, the two parts being bolted together by a bolt 21 and being bolted to the pile and to the building respectively.
