Abstract

1421676 Feeding webs AMF Inc 21 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 8009/74 Heading B8R A paper web N is fed from a bobbin B1 via idler rollers 3, 4, 8, 7, 9 and a driven roller 5, at the required rate, to a continuous cigarette rod making machine, the roller 8 being mounted on a pivotable, counterweighted arm 11 to tension the web. The arm is connected at its pivot to a potentiometer which, when roller 5 is being driven at a speed different from that required by the rod making machine, senses the change in the length of web loop AL and corrects the speed. An arm 28 senses when the bobbin B1 is nearly exhausted and deactivates the potentiometer so causing the roller 5 to be driven at high speed and a suction drum 26 to be brought into rotation. The loop AL increases in size allowing the arm 11 to pivot upwardly until the loop is engaged by the suction drum 26 and driven into a storage container 25. A suction port 27 engages and tensions the web exiting to the rod making machine. Roller 5 is then stopped, a new web from bobbin B2 is attached to the exhausted web at a splicing station 10 and normal web feed is resumed.
