Abstract

1420722 Hot air turbine plant W HARTLEY 15 March 1974 11562/74 Heading F1G The invention relates to a hot air turbine engine in which the compressor, heating section and the turbine are formed as an integral rotor assembly. The assembly comprises an inner casing 2 and an outer casing 3 secured to a shaft 7 mounted in bearings 1, the two casings defining an annular passage open at the inlet end 8 and at the outlet end 9. Blades 4 are disposed between the casings at the inlet end to define a centrifugal compressor, and blades 5 are disposed between the casings at the outlet end to define a radial inward flow turbine. A series of partitions are disposed between the casings between the compressor and turbine portions to form the heating section. Air compressed in the compressor section is heated indirectly in the heating section, then expanded in the turbine section, the turbine acting to drive the compressor also to provide useful power. A stator casing 10 may be disposed around the outer casing 3, there being seals 11 at the ends and the space between the casings 10 and 3 may be evacuated.
