Abstract
1419809 Recirculation of IC engine exhaust gas AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 30 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 55606 Heading F1B An I.C. engine in combination with a device for drawing off gases from the crank-case 22 comprises a pipe 21 to transmit the gases to an induction pipe or manifold 23, a closure member 24 in the pipe 21 being responsive to the suction in the crank-case and adapted to reduce the flow crosssection of the pipe 21 when the suction rises, the closure member being actuated by a mechanism outside the pipe 21 comprising a movable wall 28 in an enclosure, the wall 28 being subjected on one side to the said pressure and on the other to atmospheric pressure, return means 31 being provided to return the closure member 24 to its open position. The movable wall may be in a diaphragm, Fig. 1, or a piston (48) Fig. 2 (not shown). In the latter case, it is the weight of the piston that acts as the return means. A non-return valve (52) may be provided to prevent oil vapours being carried into enclosure (47). A throttle 34 balanced by counterweight 35 may be provided in induction pipe 23 of an engine (e.g. a diesel) that would not normally have a throttle valve.
