Abstract

1419584 Excavator buckets CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 12 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 57579/73 Heading E1F To allow of adjustment of the width of cut of an excavator bucket there is secured to the front of each side wall of the bucket a side cutter attachment comprising a bracket 38 mountable on the associated side wall, a forwardly extending cutter blade supported in the bracket, and camming means operable to adjust the blade laterally with respect to the side wall when the bracket is mounted on the side wall. Preferably the blade comprises a central body portion 32, a shank 34 extending in one direction from the body portion to pivotally engage in a recess in the bracket, and a cutting edge 30 extending in the opposite direction from said shank. A bore 52 can be provided in the central body portion and the camming means may comprise eccentric means 48, 50 disposed in and engaging said bore. The eccentric means may include a shaft 46 retained between spaced apart lugs 38, 40 of the bracket by bolts 54, 56 passing through bores 42, 44 in the lug and means are provided fore securing the eccentric means against rotation. These means may be complementary serrated means 54, 58, 60, 64 on the eccentric means and the journal means as shown and the bolts 54, 56. In a second form of side cutter attachment the shaft of the eccentric means may be supported in journals in the lugs and the rotation-preventing means may be clamping bolts screwable into the ends of the shaft and engageable with the outermost surfaces of the lugs.
