Abstract

1419352 Shafts; bearings GRUNDFOS AS 8 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 00846/74 Headings F2U and F2A An impeller shaft for a pump comprises a metal tube 8 in each end of which is mounted a shaft element 9, 10 of ceramic material. The elements 9, 10 may be press-fitted or crimped into a stainless steel tube 8 with a vented space 11 between them. The shaft may be mounted in ceramic bearings 2, 4 and provided with a carbon thrust ring 18 engaged by a ball end face 19 of the tube. The impeller 21 is mounted on the shaft by drawing a split sleeve 22 downwardly by a nut 26 so that its conical surface 23 presses against a portion 24 of the impeller. The sleeve may have three axial slots 22a.
