Abstract

1419236 Ratchet clutches; one-way friction brakes NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 11 March 1974 [26 April 1973] 10670/74 Headings F2C and F2E In a one-way clutch or brake wherein flat ended rollers 36 wedge between a cylindrical inner race 18 and cam surfaces 30 formed on an outer race 28, the rollers 36 engage the cam surfaces 30 along two circumferentially spaced generator lines and are spaced from the inner race 18 during disengagement of the clutch or brake. The cam surfaces are formed by two involute curves S1, S2, the latter having a larger pressure angle than the former. During clutch or brake disengagement the rollers 36 are held in two line contact with the cam surfaces 30 by centrifugal force. The rollers are moved into a clutch or brake engaged wedging position by friction drag between the rollers and end plates.
