Abstract
1418403 Matrix displays and circuits therefor NIPPON ELECTRIC CO Ltd 5 Feb 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 5623/73 Heading G5C Display apparatus comprises a gas discharge display/memory panel with two conductor arrays insulated from the gas and means for applying pulses of alternating potential between a selected pair of electrodes with a peak to peak amplitude 2 to 4 times the firing potential and means for applying a D.C. bias to one of the electrodes to displace the mean amplitude from zero. This considerably reduces the delay in starting a discharge. The circuitry for a panel with crossed conductor arrays includes a D.C. source 71 and a source of negative going pulses #. Every fourth row conductor 73 of the panel is interconnected to form 3 groups and pulse trains are supplied cyclically to these groups by applying control pulses T 1 , T 2 ... to transistors 111, 112 .... Pulses are applied to selected column conductors 74 when a pulse train is supplied to a corresponding row conductor by applying pulses t 1 , t 2 ... to transistors 91, 92 ... The D.C. bias is applied on a conductor 75 and superimposed on the column conductors by circuits 105 each comprising a diode and capacitor. In other embodiments the D.C. bias is applied to row conductors. The panel may comprise segment electrodes.
