1417327 Dictation masks E L GUILLE 18 Feb 1974 7192/74 Heading H4J A dictation mask (Fig. 2) comprises a body 1 generally of part-spherical hollow form, a faceengaging and conforming member 11 (e.g. of foam latex) and a partition 9 extending across the front of the hollow body 1 behind the face conforming member 11. Partition 9 has a single breath inlet 35. A second partition 13<SP>1</SP> divides the body 1 into two chambers 15, 17, a single breath inlet 43 providing for passage of breath from chamber 15 to chamber 17. A single breath outlet 47 is provided from chamber 17 to a chamber 6 in a handle 5. A hollow sinuously configured muffler 19 (see also Fig. 5) is mounted in chamber 15 and has an open end positioned over opening 35 to receive breath. The muffler has breath outlets 31, 33 (Fig. 5). A similar muffler 21 is mounted in chamber 17 and has an open end positioned over opening 43 to receive breath from chamber 15. The mufflers 19, 21 have closed ends 29. Behind the face-comprising member 11 an annular flange 3 has a duct 53 with a flipper valve 55 which permits inhalation of air. A microphone 57 is, in use, adjacent the user's mouth. Mufflers 19, 21 may be of plastics material. The face engaging and conforming member 11 preferably has an indentation (13), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) at its upper end for the user's nose. Body 1, annular flange 3 and handle 5 are of plastics. The handle 5 has a closure 49 with moisture-absorbing crystals. The microphone is actuated by a switch 61 operated by a trigger 63.
