Abstract

1413782 Electric motors MALLORY TIMERS Ltd 17 May 1974 22177/74 Heading H2A The permanent magnet rotor 16 of a synchronous motor is connected to gearing through a lost motion device and is associated with a mechanical device ensuring rotation in a desired direction. The lost motion is provided by a pinion 50 coupled to the rotor by a projection 76 on the pinion or rotor disposed in a recess 78 in the rotor or pinion. The one-way device includes a stop 74 on the rotor and a gear-wheel 54 driven by the pinion 50. The gear-wheel may have projections 80 one of which will engage stop 74 on the rotor if the rotor rotates in the wrong direction. The lost motion then permits the rotor to start in the desired direction free of load. When the rotor rotates in the desired direction, the stop 74 passes unhindered through the spaces between the projections 80. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the gear-wheel 54 carries a continuous disc (80<SP>1</SP>) whose peripheral edge performs the function of the projections 80, shown, the disc having in its peripheral edge a single recess (82<SP>1</SP>) which serves the function of the spaces between the projections 80.
