1413294 Grain tanks for combine harvesters DEERE & CO 24 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 54429/72 Heading A1F The discharge auger 17 of a grain tank 10 of a combine harvester is swingable in its tube 18 about the axis 20 of a rotary joint 16, 19 from the transport position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 to working positions transverse to the direction of travel of the harvester. In Fig. 2, the discharge auger 17 is driven via bevel gears 42 and 41 by a shaft 40 driven via further bevel gears by a main shaft 26 carrying a pulley 28 driven by a disengageable belt drive 27 from the engine of the harvester. An internal auger 21 is driven from the main shaft 26 via toothed gears 30 and 31, a clutch being interposed between the gear 31 and auger 21 so that drive to the auger 21 may be engaged after that of the discharge auger 17 by means of a common control lever. This clutch may also be constructed as (or connected to) an overload clutch. The tube 18 is supported by a pivoted rod 23 and swung towards working positions by a single-acting ram 45 which may be mounted above the threshing box and connected by a cable to the tube 18. In Fig. 4, the discharge auger 17 is driven via universal joint 54 (or bevel gears) from the shaft 53 of a belt drive 52 driven by the main shaft 48 which also drives the internal auger 21 via belt drive 49 and a clutch (not shown).
