Abstract

1413165 Stopping articles on conveyers; sheet handling appliances BOWE BOHLER & WEBER KG 12 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47050/72 Headings B8A and B8R [Also in Division F2] Envelopes 1 supplied by a delivery device 2 to a conveyer 3, are stopped by a device 4 which comprises a pliable belt 6 which extends transversely across the path of conveyance, around at least one support surface 8, and is subject to tension by springs 12, there being means for varying the pressure between the belt 6 and the surface 8. As shown, there are two belts 6, 7, both of which extend around mandrels 8, 9, which are rigid with a frame member 27. The belts also extend around further mandrels 10 before being anchored at each end to springs 12, 13. Each mandrel 10, 11 is rigid with a respective disc 14, 15, rotationally mounted respectively on the mandrels 8, 9. Each disc may be locked to its associated mandrel by a screw 16. By unlocking each screw 16 and turning the discs in the direction of the arrows, the degree of friction damping may be adjusted. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the mandrel 8 may be mounted in, and adjustable along, a slot (14A), the axis of which is disposed obliquely to the axis of the mandrel.
