Abstract

141,274. Farnsworth, W. W. Sept. 20, 1919. Vacuum cleaning - apparatus. - A vacuum cleaner of the kind comprising an air circulation through blast and suction nozzles is provided with a single narrow inlet slot moving over the surface and narrow blast outlet slots extending along each side of the inlet slot, the air passing in succession through the inlet slot, an electric fan, a filter bag and the blast nozzles. As shown, a fan contained in a casing 10 and operated by a motor 11 draws dusty air through the surface to be cleaned and through the narrow nozzle 15 and forces it into an air-tight filter bag 19 detachably secured to the fan casing. The air entering this bag is freed from dust by the filter partition 24, Fig. 6, and passes out through a channel 23 to the blast passages 17 whence it issues through narrow slits at the side of the suction nozzle, raising dust from the surface which passes into the suction nozzle. The bag is formed with openings at one end for cleaning-out purposes, and is secured by a plate 26 attached by a chain to the operating handle. The nozzle is secured by clips to the fan casing.
